Standardbreds Available For Adoption

Cool Lady Dagney

19-year-old Bay Mare

Cool Lady Dagney is a Maine-bred mare who was not a competitive racer, was sold to the Amish where she lived until she was 15, then rescued from the kill pen and donated to FFS so that she might be trained for pleasure disciplines and find a home. After initial work, it is apparent that she can not do ring work, but might be suitable for light walking on trails or as companion horse. She is a willing worker, but nervous outside of her routine. This mare deserves a safe retirement! UTD vet & farrier.

Adoption fee: $500.00

9-year-old Bay Mare

Courageous is just over 15h, sound, and eager to learn her new job as a pleasure horse. She was too slow to race and her owner wanted her to have a safe new home. Her training has just begun and she's already showing a willingness to learn. Watch for updates!

April 20, 2019: Courageous is ready for adoption! This lovely 8-year old mare is UTD, trailers, stands for farrier, has good ground manners, and is under saddle both in the ring and out in the world. She will be going to the Fun Day Show at the Hollis Equestrian Park on May 5 for an outing with lots of other horses, people, and games.

June 14, 2019: Courageous enjoyed a day out at the Fun Show and is adding many trail miles to her resume. She is loved by all who know her and looks forward to her new home for years of adventures! UTD vet & farrier.

Adoption fee: $700.00

Just Ask Lester

13-year-old Dark Bay Mare

Lester entered the SPHO-ME Ambassador Horse Program in 2009, was retrained as a pleasure horse, and adopted as a companion horse where she lived for several years. She was recently started back in work, has comfortable gaits, the beginnings of a canter, has done some jumping, and seems to remember her earlier training. She was also previously evaluated hooked to a cart and was a reliable driving horse, but has not been driven for 10 years.

June 14, 2019: Lester has won blue ribbons in her 2 shows and was awarded a score of 71% in her dressage Into test. She is mannerly, willing to work, a versatile mare, and ready for adoption to the right home! UTD vet & farrier.

Adoption fee: $1000.00

Congratulations to Just Ask Lester and his new owner! We wish them many years of fun adventures together!

Snow in August

8-year-old Gray Mare

"Ellie" was adopted as a companion horse after having been in just one race.  In the past 5 years she was ridden just a few times and entered our program when the other horse passed on from old age. Ellie is a striking 16h mare with good manners, and already in her beginning training she looks lovely under saddle! Ellie is a flashy mare who looked fantastic at her first show!
